Being normal is kind of, well, normal. So why have a normal mixer in your kitchen? Pimp it out Alton Brown style.
Brenna first introduced me to Alton Brown via Good Eats which is one of his shows on Food Network. He has a few other shows on that channel as well (Iron Chef America and Cutthroat Kitchen) but Good Eats is my favorite. Brown explores the science and technique behind the cooking, the history of different foods, and the advantages of different kinds of cooking equipment. He said the show was inspired by an idea of combining Mr. Wizard, Monty Python and Julia Child. Even though the show ended in 2011, there were over 200 episodes so I have a lot of catching up to do. It was on Good Eats that I first noticed his pimped out mixer with flames on both sides. Awesome!
Brown said he was disappointed with the quality of cooking shows on American television, so he decided to produce his own show. In preparation, he enrolled at the New England Culinary Institute and graduated in 1997 at age 35. He is so amazing when it comes to cooking and the science behind it. Imagine Bill Nye or Mr. Wizard in the kitchen and you’ve got Alton Brown. Alton says he was a poor science student in high school and college, but he focused on the subject to understand the underlying processes of cooking. So see kids? It is never too late to start learning.
And so while flipping through some of my vintage cookbooks I got to thinking which is often a dangerous process. I wonder if other people customize their kitchen mixer? Come to find out they do.
I love the idea of a Flying Tigers mixer yet as long as we are talking about animals, how about a cow mixer?
This one is pretty simple but very impressive.

Yes that mixer is completely awesome.
I have seen a lot of different mixer graphics. Ghosts, flowers, Paris cafe scenes. The options are endless right? You could pimp your mixer using your own stickers or there are special kits you can find online or… if money is not an option those hand painted versions out there are in the $900 range. Me? I dunno which I will end up doing. One thing for sure is my Aqua Sky colored KitchenAid Artisan although beautiful is looking kind of normal…and we can’t have that now can we?
