#981 Feedly

A while ago Google Reader closed up shop and I had to find a new news aggregator. This annoyed me as I often do not like change. If things are fine I do not like to change them around.

Brenna always reminds me I could always just listen to my phonograph by lamplight if that would make me happy.

So I quit my bitching and found out Feedly was working closely with Google to help transfer all my saved information over to Feedly so I signed up with Feedly. The good new is it went seemlessly. That makes me smile.

But wait. Let’s back up a bit. What is Feedly? Feedly is a news aggregator application for various Web browsers and mobile devices running iOS and Android, also available as a cloud-based service. It compiles news feeds from a variety of online sources for the user to customize and share with others.

So what does that mean and why is it useful?

I have a bunch of newsletters and blogs I like to read and interact with. It is not a great use of time to have to type in the URL of all these sites just to see if they posted something today. Wouldn’t it be great if I had my assistant look up all the sites to see if they posted anything today and then compile anything new in a folder for me? That is exactly what Feedly does.

Here is a screen shot showing how Feedly lists all the latest posts on the blogs and newsletters I like to read.

feedly all

Notice how I can organize the posts into different categories as I have done on the left hand side. Then I can click on one of those categories and zoom in on that group. You can see here how when I click on ‘Lifestyle’ it zooms into the articles within that folder. So someone like Sean Ogle or Lifestyle of the Unemployed would then show up withing that group.

Or I can click on the title of one of the websites and see their latest post such as this one-

Cool huh? I mean this is a huge time saver as Feedly just does this for me automatically. Completely awesome and a great service that is absolutely free. That makes me smile for sure.

Does this sound good? All you have to do is go to www.feedly.com and sign up and start organizing your blogs and websites you like to read. So simple!

Thanks Feedly!
