#803 Tongue twisters

Did you ever try to say tongue twisters? You know what those are right? A tongue twister is a phrase designed to be difficult to articulate properly. Many tongue twisters use a combination of alliteration and rhyme. A tongue twister often has two or more sequences of sounds that requires the speaker to reposition the tongue between syllables, then the same sounds are repeated in a different sequence. Makes it tricky…and funny.

Some examples?

Frivolous fat Fannie fried fresh fish furiously.

or how about

How many yaks could a yak pack pack if a yak pack could pack yaks?

One of the first ones I remember hearing was:

Betty bought a bit of bitter butter, baked it in her batter and it made her batter bitter. So Betty bought of better batter, baked it in her batter and it made her batter better.

and

Fuzzy Wazzy was a Bear
Fuzzy Wuzzy had no Hair
If Fuzzy Wuzzy had no Hair
Then Fuzzy Wuzzy Wasn’t Very Fuzy, Was he?

I think everyone must know:

Sally sells sea shells by the shiny sea shore
So she can see the shimmering silver ships
In sunshiny summers she strolls along the sea shore
shoelessly splashing summersaults while she skips

or

Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers
A peck of pickled peppers Peter Piper picked
If Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers
Where’s the peck of pickled peppers Peter Piper picked

See? Don’t these tongue twisters just make you smile?

The children’s books by Dr. Seuss contain a bunch of tongue twisters, with Oh Say Can You Say?, and Fox in Socks being some pretty fun examples.
