I love a room with a view. No I am not talking about the 1908 novel by English writer E. M. Forster or the 1985 British romance drama film starring Helena Bonham Carter, Daniel Day-Lewis and Judi Dench or the 2007 televised adaptation of the novel. No this has nothing to do with Miss Lucy Honeychurch and views of Florence, Italy.
Well, actually it kind of does.
I have stayed in many hotels rooms over the years and it is always an exciting experience. I have a sort of interesting ritual when I enter the room. I take a quick glance around and make sure the room suits me and why wouldn’t it? Then like James Bond would do I say “This will do me just fine.” I always photograph the room from all angles for the memory but not before I check the view from the window. I really do require a nice view at least.
Some people will argue “But you are only in the room for a little while. You should be outside doing stuff. Why worry about the view?” Yes, I see their point though my position is when I am in the room, I deserve a nice view. I have had rooms in the past that over looked the air conditioning system of the building next door.
This past weekend we had the chance to enjoy a very nice room with a view. Here are a few pictures for your enjoyment.
Here you get to see the view from the bedroom window from the couch next to the bed.
Here is a view looking between the two towers of the Cosmopolitan with Caesars Palace on the other side of the lake and fountains at Bellagio.
This is a view from the other bed room window over looking Planet Hollywood where Britney Spears performs lip syncs.
Sure, I may only be in the room for a short time relatively speaking as I should be outside exploring the area. Sometimes though on a business trip there is no chance to go out to explore. The one common denominator is being inside the room and enjoying the view.
One sure way to make me smile is to reserve me a room with a view.
What was the nicest view you ever had in a hotel room? What would your dream view be? The Eiffel Tower? The Pyramids of Giza? An Alaskan glacier? Let me know in the comments.
Bonus points: What James Bond film was it where Bond walked into his hotel room which of course is amazing and says something to the effect of “This will do just fine.”? I seem to recall it was Quantum of Solace but perhaps it is from a film earlier than that? Or was it several films? 10,000 points to whoever has the answer.
