Invented in 1957 by two inventors named Alfred Fielding and Marc Chavannes who were trying to create a three dimensional wallpaper, bubble wrap has been providing hours of fun for both young and old for over a half century. Everyone knows what bubble wrap is right? You know, that pliable, transparent plastic material commonly used for packing fragile items and things you order from Amazon and other companies and everyone has popped those little bubbles at some point, right? Why is it so fun? If you have not done it yet, you are missing out!
Bubble wrap, sometimes called bubble pack, bubble paper, air bubble packing, bubble wrapping or aeroplast, is almost better than the actual product the bubble wrap is designed to protect. Sure, that new Swisscard or WIFI device, James Bond style watch or crystal vase is what you ordered, but the bubble wrap is certainly more fun when you pop it. I can actually sit for hours popping it if I had a large enough roll.
There are many ways to pop bubble wrap; you can squeeze it, step on it, roll it across your lap or just fold it over and pop twice as many bubbles quickly and easily. However you choose to pop it, it will always bring a smile to your face. Children like it because it provides entertainment they can’t get from any other toy or video game and adults love it because it makes us feel like a kid again.
I sometimes order things online in hopes that it will come wrapped in enough bubble wrap to keep me busy all day. I suppose I could just go the local pack-n-ship and buy a roll of it, or better yet, order some from Amazon but that would bring in a world of problems and perhaps even some counseling. (Hi, my name is Troy and I am addicted to popping bubble wrap.)
Take a look around the house or your office and I am sure you will find some bubble wrap to pop and if you do, you will be smiling all the while. As a matter of fact, I am going to go find some right now and start popping.
Which is your favorite bubble wrap? The kind with the large bubbles that give off a loud pop, or the smaller bubbles that snap when you pop them? Click here to leave a comment and share your opinion and experience. Would love to hear from you.
