I do not remember the first time I saw a double decker bus though I remember I truly took notice of them while visiting London in the ’90s. They were all over the place and hard to miss.
The first double decker bus was invented in Paris in 1853, it was an horse-drawn omnibus. The upper floor was cheaper and often uncovered. The first double decker motor bus in Paris, Schneider BrilliƩ P2, appeared in 1906.
You can rent a double decker bus in Las Vegas or other cities for your parties or sight seeing needs. When I go to First Friday which is a sort of outdoor art and cultural event held monthly in a certain area of Las Vegas I take the shuttle bus and always hope I get to ride in the double decker bus.
Cities throughout the world use the double decker bus for sight seeing purposes as the upper level offers a better vantage point to see the sights and attractions. In Las Vegas and other cities they have a hop on / hop off program where you can buy an all day pass and get on and off the bus while visiting sights. In fact, longtime British Liberal politician William Gladstone once said, “Yes, gentlemen, the way to see London is from the top of a ‘bus. From the top of a ‘bus, gentlemen.”
Many times sports teams will rent a double decker bus for their victory parade.
They even have fancy double decker bus motorcoaches for longer trips. I think next time I have to travel to a different city I may like to take a few extra days and do it by double decker bus. Could see the country a little better that way right?
Whatever your reason for riding the bus I am sure it will bring you many smiles.
